Greenhouse Sustainability is not only active in the Netherlands, but also abroad. In Denmark, for example, it works closely with GASA GROUP to give growers in Scandinavia insight into their carbon footprint. We spoke to marketing manager Jens Hermansen about this cooperation.
What does GASA GROUP do?
“At GASA GROUP, we strive to be the leading European supplier in plant solutions. We are an international trading company focusing on plants, flowers and related products. We also offer services such as distribution and logistics and have branches in Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Hungary and Norway.”
What does sustainability mean to you?
“At GASA GROUP, we take our responsibility to the planet very seriously. We want to create and support initiatives that contribute to reduction, reuse and recycling. Nature plays a huge role in our health and well-being, which is why we want to protect and support it - and give something in return. Sustainability and social responsibility are deeply embedded in our organization and we always consider the impact of our decisions on people and the environment.”
What does that mean in practice?
“It means reducing our carbon footprint, reducing our energy consumption and reducing waste production across the company. We focus on what we can directly influence and make sure we buy responsibly from certified growers whenever possible.”
Are growers in Scandinavia working on sustainability?
“The Danish horticultural sector is very active in sustainability and environmentally friendly work. There is a clear drive to reduce the use of plant protection products, improve water recirculation and increase energy efficiency. There is also a strong focus on good working conditions and support for the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By reducing waste and supporting biodiversity, producers are striving to make the sector more sustainable through responsible and innovative production methods.”
How did Greenhouse Sustainability come your way?
“We were looking for a serious, reliable partner who could help us understand our carbon footprint at GASA Group. That's how we ended up with Greenhouse Sustainability. Our goal is to make it easier for Nordic growers to understand and work with their own carbon footprint. In practice, we are the Nordic point of contact for Greenhouse Sustainability.”
Why is this collaboration important?
“It is crucial to engage the entire value chain if you want to understand the impact of each player. Greenhouse Sustainability's carbon footprint tool allows us to provide solid, reliable product-level carbon footprints.”
