We are happy to introduce our new addition Cintia Halmi to you! Cintia recently started working as a New Business Developer for both Bamboo Village and Greenhouse Sustainability.

First of all, we are very happy that you joined our team! Can you tell us what your background is and why you chose to work for GHS and BV?

Hi, I'm happy to be part of the team! Originally from Hungary, I completed my bachelor's degree in Business Management with a focus on Environmental Management. Even back then, I had a strong inclination towards working in the field of sustainability. However, after graduation, I found myself drawn into consulting.

About a year and a half ago, I made the move to the Netherlands to pursue my master's studies at the University of Amsterdam, specializing in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. During my time there, I learned a lot about the concept of social entrepreneurship, and it became clear to me that I wanted to align my career with a company whose mission went beyond just making profits, one that resonated with my personal values.

It's fulfilling to be part of a team that shares my passion for making a positive difference.

What does your role in New Business Development entail?

My pivotal role involves seeking out new partners across various avenues to expand the impact of our offerings. Greenhouse Sustainability focuses on assisting companies in understanding their emissions, reducing them, and offsetting unavoidable emissions through our carbon removal project Bamboo Village. However, Bamboo Village isn't solely about carbon offsetting. We have exciting plans in the pipeline, such as establishing a factory to produce bamboo materials and constructing houses in the vicinity of our plantations in Uganda, as the name implies. My primary focus has been on seeking out new partnerships to amplify the project's impact. Furthermore, I stay updated on the latest technologies, trends, and regulations in sustainability and the bamboo ecosystem. This ensures that Bamboo Village remains ahead of industry developments and can seize the most significant opportunities.

Why is it important for companies to compensate for CO2-emissions?

It's important for companies to balance out their CO2-emissions, because actively removing CO2 from the atmosphere is inevitable to reach net zero targets, merely focusing on CO2 avoidance won’t be enough to reach those targets.

It is important though to keep in mind that reducing your emissions is the most important long-term action and it definitely shouldn’t be overlooked. But companies have a responsibility to lead the way to a sustainable future also on the short term. As an immediate action, compensating for the emissions you currently have is a good solution. Plus, investing in carbon removal projects isn't just good for a company's image – it also creates a culture of sustainability that draws in customers, investors, and top talent who value sustainable practices.

Why is Bamboo Village a good solution for companies to balance their emissions?

Bamboo Village, as the name suggests, is a bamboo-based carbon removal project. Bamboo is a great solution for companies aiming to balance their emissions because it's a fantastic carbon sink. It grows super fast and, being a grass, its roots system survives even after pruning. Plus, you can make all sorts of amazing things out of bamboo. And it's not just about carbon – bamboo also helps improve soil quality and holds onto water, making it perfect for bringing life back to degraded land.

We're proud to be working with bamboo. By getting involved in bamboo-based offset projects, companies can offset their carbon footprint while supporting local communities and biodiversity.

How do Greenhouse Sustainability and Bamboo Village complement each other in helping companies become climate neutral?

Greenhouse Sustainability and Bamboo Village both have the mission to help companies on their sustainable journey. While Greenhouse Sustainability specializes in providing comprehensive solutions for gaining insight into your emissions and reduce those, Bamboo Village offers an opportunity to offset emissions through the nature-based solution of growing bamboo. Together, they cover all the bases, from calculating and reducing environmental impact to compensating for the emissions that cannot be reduced yet.

Could you share with us what you are looking forward to the coming months?

I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through my work. I look forward to learning more about the voluntary carbon market and the innovative use cases of bamboo. I feel that here I can have the freedom to share my ideas and actively contribute to the company’s mission that aligns with my values.
